Joyce Tokar is the President of Pyrrhus Software – a
software consultancy and training company.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Tokar has been working in the area of mission
and safety critical, real-time, and embedded software systems. She has been involved in research and
development in the areas of software and systems architectures, high level
computing languages such as
Dr. Tokar is also active in the area of secure software system development tools and environments. She is leading a team in the analysis and evolution of the system of systems software for the US Department of Defense Future Combat System (FCS). She provides expert witness consultation in the area of real-time embedded systems and software systems engineering. Dr. Tokar also offers training courses in AADL, SPARK, Ada, and real-time embedded systems programming.
Tokar is a member of The Open Group's Real-Time Java group working on
developing a standard definition of Java that is acceptable to the
safety-critical and real-time communities. Dr.
Tokar is the Head of the US Technical Advisor Group (TAG) to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22 Working Group 9,
the group that is responsible for the definition and evolution of the
Tokar has authored a large number of papers and reports, most of which are in
the areas of software & system architecture, the
Dr. Tokar has
received numerous awards for her contributions. Most recenlty Dr. Tokar has received a Pride at Boeing Award for her leadership, perseverance, organizational
talents, and calmness in the course of the work on the FCS project. She has been ncluded the Who’s Who in
Executives and Professionals 2005-2006 and received the Outstanding Ada Community
Contributions Award 2000 from the ACM (Assoc. for Computing Machinery) SIGAda. She has been recognized in Who’s Who in Information
Technology. Dr. Tokar also received the Duncan Peddie Memorial Award for her
lectures at the
